Because the whole promise is that the count is right even if you do not open the app for a month. iOS only lets an app notice that you have moved to another country while it is closed if you grant "Always". With "While Using" access, days you spend without opening the app are simply never recorded.

iOS asks in two steps: first "While Using", then a second prompt offering "Always". Both need to be accepted.

No. Meridian uses significant-change location monitoring, not continuous GPS. The phone wakes the app when you have moved a meaningful distance — roughly the scale of changing cell towers — not every few seconds. Typical impact is well under 1% a day.

No. Each reading is matched against country borders on your phone, using a dataset bundled inside the app, and then the coordinates are thrown away. Only the day and the country are kept. The app makes no network call to work out where you are, which is also why it works with no signal after you land.

No. You can add and edit every trip by hand, and all rules and reports work the same way. You just lose the automatic part. You can change your mind at any time in iOS Settings → Meridian → Location.

Meridian will count only the days you open the app, and it shows a banner on the main screen telling you that tracking is partial, with a link to fix it. iOS only offers the "Always" prompt once, so after that the banner sends you to Settings instead.

To rebuild your travel history it needs to sample dates and location tags across years of photos. Choosing pictures one at a time would not produce a usable timeline. It reads only the date and location tag attached to each photo — it never opens, views or uploads the images themselves, and it keeps only a list of days and countries, which you review before anything is saved.

If you grant access to selected photos only, the import still runs, but it can only reconstruct the days covered by those photos.

That usually means your photos carry no location tags — a camera setting, not a problem with your library. To have it work in future, turn on iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Camera. Tracking from today onwards is unaffected either way, and you can add past trips by hand.

Expected — some photos in a library were taken by other people, or saved from messages. Every proposed trip is editable on the review screen before you accept it, and every day stays editable afterwards from the calendar.

Schengen 90/180 (rolling window), the UK Statutory Residence Test (automatic tests plus sufficient ties), the US Substantial Presence Test (this year plus weighted prior two years), and a generic 183-day threshold for any other country.

No, and it matters. If you fly from Spain to Portugal, that single day counts for both under "any part of a day" rules — including Schengen and the US test. Meridian records both and shows both flags on the calendar, because hiding one would understate a limit you are actually consuming.

Location monitoring only fires when you move. If you stay put for a long stretch, the app keeps counting the trip but has not had recent proof you are still there. After a threshold it flags those days and any exit it had to guess, and offers them for you to confirm or correct. Undercounting is the dangerous direction, so it tells you rather than quietly assuming.

Open History → Calendar, tap the day, and correct it. Whole trips can be edited or deleted from the list. Manual edits always win over anything the app detected.

Settings → Subscription, then Restore Purchases on the screen that opens. Use the same Apple ID you bought with.

In iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Meridian. Cancelling there stops the renewal; you keep access until the end of the paid period. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.

Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue them ourselves, but if something went wrong on our side, tell us and we will help.

Never — not in this version and not in any future one. You enter only the type, country and dates. Holding other people's identity documents is a risk we have chosen permanently not to take.

Not in this version. Everything lives on the device where you entered it. Because of that, deleting the app removes your record — export first if it matters to you.

Settings → Delete All Data. It is immediate and permanent, and there is no copy on our side to ask about.
